I hear a lot of conservatives (and sadly, even some who call themselves libertarians) arguing, urging, pleading us to vote for Romney and the Republicans because they represent the "lesser of two evils" and promise to cut government and regulations. Anybody but Obama, right!?
Well leaving aside the moral issues of voting - essentially the endorsement of a system I oppose with every cell in my body - the history of the U.S. since WW2 tells a different story. Yes, the Republicans always talk about limited government, free markets, and cutting government when it's election season. But like Lucy holding out the football for Charlie, it is always a lie and a sham.
Government grows. Simple as that. Like cancer, it grows simply for growth's sake, that's what it does. Here is a great chart that shows that no matter who is in charge, the state expands (and even tends to grow more when the GOP is pulling the levers).
Voting for "the lesser of two evils" to shrink the power of government has been one of the most useless and fruitless strategies possible. And why should we expect any different? After all, any political party is part of the government apparatus. It's like joining the Catholic Church to turn them all into atheists or joining the Mafia to turn it into a Boy Scout club. Violence, coercion, and plunder are the motus operandi of the state.
Withdraw your consent, practice agorism, ignore and laugh at the state, spread the message as much as possible, live as freely as you possibly can in your own life, and for God's sake, don't vote.
